Time Activities

Year 2 Learning week beginning 16th March

This week the children will be recognising, finding & naming fractions 1/3, ¼ , 2/4 & ¾ for a length, shape, set of objects and quantities. They will be writing simple fractions for example, ½ of 6 = 3 and recognise the equivalence of 2/4 and ½. They will learn that when finding a fraction all parts of the whole must be equal.

They will be learn to identify the denominator and the numerator.

When looking at a ½ – 2 is the denominator (the number of parts)

When looking at a ½ – 1 is the numerator (the amount of parts)

This is being explored by cutting up and colouring shapes & by sharing pots of counters.

Children are thinking about the Queen and thinking of their own rules that she might make. They will be writing their own rules as if they were the queen: If I were the ruler of our country, my first rule would be……’ They will be creating 6 rules. They will be making their sentences better by trying to include the conjunction: When, if, that, because, meanwhile, however, although, so- in their sentences.

Children are learning to identify and write words with the endings –ment, –ness, –ful, –less, –ly.

The children are finding out about Queen Elizabeth. Who is she? What do we already know about her? What have we found out? What type of ruler is she?

They will be looking at the art of Andy Warhol and the collage work of Ann Carrington and then creating their own.

The children will also be making special cards for the weekend.
